Responsibly, Designing Inside The Box

Presented by the Interior Design Institute of BC

In 2009 the Interior Design Show West challenged IDIBC member firms/teams to create spatial design concepts to occupy various sized shipping containers; Designing Inside the Box was born.  The result; amazing installations by IDIBC Member Firms which demonstrated how creativity, ingenuity and teamwork can transform any space into something that is beautiful and thought provoking.  For IDSwest 2010, we are once again tapping into this fabulous creativity; but what type of structure can adequately house such amazing concepts?  The answer was right in front of us… design “the box” as well.                                                                                                     DITB 2009 - False Creek Design Group

Introducing the 2010 design feature Responsibly Designing Inside The Box.  Once again, IDSwest is inviting six IDIBC member firms to create original installations, but with the added challenge of creating the ‘box’ or structure to house the installation and adding a theme to the challenge; Responsible Design.  The spaces will be 8ftx8ftx8ft and can be made of anything your firm can dream up, within your comprehension of what encompasses Responsible Design.

The concept can see the design taking social implications, be completely off the wall, or be a practical implementable space.  The beauty of this challenge is that we don’t expect to see any two projects even close to similar.  That is also what the media loves about this challenge.  The structures will be a highlight of the annual trade/consumer show IDSwest, and will be showcased with the IDIBC booth.
